The Indian Ocean in front of Pongwe Beach is perfect for swimming because there are no rocks, and it’s always calm due to a reef around 1 km offshore. Pongwe beach is arguably the best swimming beach in Zanzibar.
Pongwe’s quiet arc of beach is dotted with palm trees and backed by dense vegetation; this is about as close to a quintessential tropical paradise as you can get.
The peaceful palm-fringed beach has many loungers where guests can relax and enjoy the beautiful views.
Snorkelling and boat trips can also be arranged to the reef.
Pongwe Beach is not crowded compared to other popular beaches in Zanzibar. If you want to stay away from the noise, then this is one of your best options.
